Why You Should Dry Skin Brush and How to Do It

What is the largest organ in the human body and releases over a third of the toxins in our body? It’s your skin. Dry skin brushing is an effective daily practice to help the body remove harmful toxins, not to mention it exfoliates and softens your skin. 

When you dry skin brush, you’re massaging and helping your lymphatic system cleanse itself.  You pull waste from your body as well as remove any lingering toxins from soap, environmental factors, lotions, deodorant, and other things to help improve skin health. 

What’s so great about skin brushing is that it only takes about 5 minutes a day, so you can easily fit it into your busy morning routine and see great benefits! Some of the benefits include:

-          Exfoliates

-          Stimulated lymphatic system

-          Reduces or eliminates cellulite

-          Unclogs pores

So if your summer tan has faded into dry, flaky skin, here are eight simple steps and tips for you to follow to help you get started with dry skin brushing:

  1. Get a long-handled, non-synthetic soft bristle brush similar to this.
  2. Remove your clothes and stand on a towel or in the bathtub or shower. 
  3. Gently brush your arms and legs upward in the direction towards your heart and use a circular motion on your stomach, hips and thighs.
  4. You'll want to brush several times in the same area, overlapping your strokes as you continue.
  5. Be gentle on sensitive areas, such as your chest and neck.
  6. It’s normal for your skin to get a little red and tingly, this goes away.
  7. Once you have your whole body brushed, hop into the shower.

Continue this practice daily and your skin will be soft and smooth.  Remember to rinse your brush with warm soapy water and let it air dry on the counter after each use. And that’s it!
